Quick glossary

Terms used across product specifications and technical data sheets.

Acid Value (AV)
Milligrams of KOH required to neutralise the free acid in 1 g of resin. Higher AV usually means more reactive carboxyl groups.
AHEW
Amine Hydrogen Equivalent Weight, the resin mass that contains one mole of active N–H. Used to calculate stoichiometry against an epoxy resin's EEW.
Amine Value
Milligrams of KOH equivalent to the amine content in 1 g of curing agent. Higher amine value generally means faster cure.
Oil Length
Percentage of fatty-acid oil in an alkyd resin (calculated as triglyceride). 30–45 is short, 46–55 is medium, 56+ is long.
FCB4 Viscosity
Time in seconds for a specified volume of resin to flow through a Ford Cup B4 orifice, the standard ink/paint shop measure.
Gardner Colour
Visual colour scale from 1 (water-white) to 18 (dark amber), the standard colour metric for clear resins.
Softening Point
Temperature at which a solid resin begins to flow under standard test conditions, a proxy for ink-make-up temperature and storage stability.
